Reducing or quitting alcohol can help improve mood, sleep and energy, improve relationships, save money and lower your risk of health conditions such as cancer and heart disease.
But if you’re a regular or heavy drinker, it can be dangerous to reduce or quit alcohol on your own. It’s a good idea to discuss first with your doctor or relevant health professional.
Teachers Health supports eligible* members with the following programs to reduce or quit alcohol.
Detox at Home
How it works
This 12-month alcohol detox program equips you with tools and strategies to manage your alcohol use. The 3-stage (medically-supervised) process involves assessment and preparation, detox week, and aftercare (group and individual telehealth support). Check your suitability online or contact us through the enquiry form below.
Eligibility
The At Home Detox program might be right for you* if the following apply:
- You’re looking for support to detox from alcohol
- You can be supported safely and appropriately through a telehealth service
- You have an ongoing relationship with a GP
- You’re 18 years or older
- You meet the clinical eligibility (and not the exclusion) criteria, which are discussed during your first phone call with us
- You’re a Teachers Health member with Top Hospital cover, paid up to date, with the 2-month waiting period served.
This program is delivered by Healthcare Services in tandem with our specialist partner Clean Slate Clinic.
Health Management Program
How it works
This program is designed to reduce the risk or stop the progression of chronic disease through personalised guidance from a healthcare professional. It starts with an initial assessment with a Healthcare Services Registered Nurse, focusing on all health and lifestyle factors that may affect your wellbeing. Our registered nurses help participants develop a personalised action plan based on their health goals to enable the desired changes. This is followed by regular health coaching to provide encouragement and support to overcome barriers, and education to help individuals succeed and sustain changes long term.
Eligibility
The Health Management Program may be right for you* if:
- You’re looking for information, advice, and support to help you manage a health condition or risk factors such as alcohol intake; and
- You’re a Teachers Health member with Hospital cover (excluding Starterpak), paid up to date, with 12-month waiting periods served.
This program is delivered over the phone by Healthcare Services Registered Nurses.
