Teachers Health and Australia for UNHCR to continue life-saving partnership for refugees
Teachers Health is proud to celebrate World Refugee Week with the continuation of their partnership with Australia for UNHCR, providing life-saving support and assistance to refugees and displaced persons around the globe. In 2022, the UNHCR Global Report has found a record number of people displaced by war, persecution, violence, and human rights abuses, reaching 110 million with that number set to increase this year.
Since the partnership began, support from Teachers Health has helped to provide assistance to over 176,000 refugees worldwide, including life-saving support for refugee women and babies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The DRC program has impacted 32,900 refugee women and children with access to better health services, including over 27,000 children under 5 and over 5,700 pregnant women. It has additionally seen 102,503 refugee and local children under 5 receive effective interventions to prevent common childhood illnesses and the distribution over 76,000 essential medicines.
“We’re immensely proud to continue our partnership with Australia for UNHCR and provide this essential assistance for refugees and displaced persons worldwide, “said Teachers Health CEO Brad Joyce.
“With a record number of displaced persons around the globe in 2022, and with this number predicted to increase in 2023, it’s pivotal we continue to offer this critical support to help people impacted by the ongoing impacts of violence, war and persecution, “he concluded.
“We are so grateful for Teachers Health’s ongoing support to help protect and respond to the needs of refugees and displaced people globally, particularly mothers and babies in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their support in DRC is helping UNHCR to provide displaced mothers and newborns with life-saving health care in very challenging circumstances,” said Australia for UNHCR CEO Trudi Mitchell.
